We should make more scenes about things that really matter to us.

The title of this post is my favorite quote from Lady Edith, which seemed fitting for my Elisalex bodice, gathered skirt combination using the Downton Abbey Dusty Blue Edith’s Swirl from Andover Fabrics. I really love the Elisalex bodice, the princess seams are just incredible flattering and comfortable, is there a better combination? I’ve now made it in long sleeve, sleeveless and short sleeve!10313534_10202256526274631_4205463571380576822_n

For the skirt I cut out the Flora skirt but made it a little less full. I’m calling it a 3/4 circle skirt because I took off about 1/4 of the width from the back pieces to accommodate my fabric. Once I had my pieces cut out I skipped the pleats and gathered the skirt. I used the Colette guide for gathering, which involves 3 strings instead of 2 and I’m so pleased with how even they are. I can’t wait to use this method again!

This was my second time using one of the Downton Abbey prints. I was considering getting one of the purples as well but then I found out about a second (and third!) collection being released so I think I’ll wait until it is to see what catches my eye. Maybe I should branch out and not make the Elisalex bodice with my potential third Downton Print, I’ll just have to see what strikes me when the time comes.
