Top 5 Hits Of 2016

Why hello! Fancy meeting you here considering I’ve been posting sporadically at best this year! I appreciate anyone who is still reading along with my sewing adventures. I decided to participate in Gillian’s Top 5 series to hopefully kick my blog writing back into gear! Gingham Upton I love this dress. Sometimes a fabric and a pattern are just perfect for each other and I think this is one of those times. I have another version cut out to wear to a wedding in April. Merino Wool Appleton Good things happen when I wear Appleton dresses so I needed a wool version for the cold New England winter. I ordered this merino to make a sweatshirt so it was interesting trying to squeeze the dress pieces onto it. I luckily made it work and so far I’ve worn this dress at least 4 times in 3 weeks. I’ll be blogging about it once I can get some decent photos! Chambray Harrison Shirt LOVE this shirt! Great for, great fabric and it’s perfect to wear for all occasions. …

Monday Motiviation

I haven’t done one of these posts in a while! I’ve been sewing a lot the last month or so after a bit of a slump and it feels sew good to have new WIPs. Listen: My friend Christine works for Quilty Box so I’ve been really interested listening to the interviews with the box curators on the Crafty Planner Podcast. Speaking of Quilty Box, I was their featured maker a few weeks ago! It was a super stroke to my ego seeing people I don’t know comment on my polka dot Anna dress. I also can’t wait to get my hands on their June box. The curator is Heather Givens and if her fabric for Windham wasn’t reason enough to want the box, 2 fellow NHMQG members have told me I look like her. Is she my spirit quilting sister? It’s possible! Read: I finished reading Me Before You and After You. If you’re looking for a good cry these are the books for you! Winslow Coulottes from Helen of Helen’s Closet, give these …

2015 Review & Looking Ahead

2015 has been quite a year! I gave myself four sewing goals and I was able to reach 3 of them. A fly front came in the form of my Ginger jeans and double welt pockets were achieved early with my Milano cape. My dressing gown is not technically an undergarment, but it is lingerie so I’m counting it! I never got around to boning a bodice, but I did purchase the Lonsdale dress so 2016 could be the year. My goals for this blog were to be asked to pattern test or participate in a blog hop. I didn’t reach either of those despite my best efforts. I think I applied to pattern test for 6 different brands and was either turned down or was not replied to. I did win two contests in 2015 though! I won a $25 gift card to Gotham Quilts as part of the Sew Sweetness Dressup Party and I won 3 yards of jersey from the Appleton Dress Sewalong. Free fabric helps soften the blow of not reaching …

Monday Motivation

Do you know what I hate the most about the winter? The lack of sunshine! I leave for work and it’s dark. I get home from work and it’s dark. As if this isn’t depressing enough it also means no time for blog photos with good lighting. I have 5 or 6 new garments to share with the posts all written, but no pictures yet. I’m getting my hair cut on Wednesday and have Thursday and Friday off for Christmas so once my hair is fresh and I’m home during the limited sunshine hours I’ll try to bang out a bunch of photos! For now though, here are some things that have been motivating me lately. Listen: The new episode of the While She Naps podcast was released today and features Jenny “Cashmerette” Rushmore. The episode was actually recorded in Grey’s Fabric which I’ll talk more about in a minute! I love my bird print Appleton Dress and made a second one with long sleeves to wear on Christmas Day. Listen to Jenny talk about …

Holiday Motivation

Instead of what is becoming my usual Monday Motivation post, today I bring you holiday motivation in honor of Thanksgiving here in the US! The best part of this post may be the Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday sales I found! I’m off to Disney on Sunday so it also seemed fitting to share my motivation early. Sales! Megan Nielsen is having a sale through Sunday on all women’s and maternity sewing patterns. Take 30% off with code BLACKFRIDAY at checkout. Papercut Patterns are having a 3 day sale on their website for 30% off patterns. The sale is valid through Saturday the 28th New Zealand time. Use code “flash” at checkout. I adore my Milano cape and I think everyone should have one! Deer & Doe is offering 20% off their patterns on Black Friday. The sale will be going live Friday morning with no coupon code given in the email I was sent. It looks like all classes and kits from Craftsy are on sale. Go see if a class you’ve …
