Try not to laugh, but I was inspired to make this cape for two reasons. First, the cashmere cape I tried on in NYC was still haunting me with its huge price tag and second, because after seeing Lord Grantham in his military cape in Downton season 5. The way he just swung on his cape as he somewhat rudely addressed Mr. Bricker, it was just wonderful! He looked like such a badass and I needed a badass cape of my own. Advertisements
The title of this post is my favorite quote from Lady Edith, which seemed fitting for my Elisalex bodice, gathered skirt combination using the Downton Abbey Dusty Blue Edith’s Swirl from Andover Fabrics. I really love the Elisalex bodice, the princess seams are just incredible flattering and comfortable, is there a better combination? I’ve now made it in long sleeve, sleeveless and short sleeve!
To date, this dress is the one I am most proud of. It was my first princess seam, my first tulip skirt, my first sleeves, my first box pleats and the first zipper I did that I’m not embarrassed of!
